Every painting I create has a story and a reference. This 24" by 48" acrylic painting done with pallette knives on gallery quality canvas is a metaphor for the love of my uncle over time from left to right.
Dream Forest of Nonlinear Love
This painting depicts my uncles loss of his partner of 50+ years. Ted is an inspiration because the dark tree on the right represents the death and then rebirth of love as life continues. The forest reminds my of the dream logic in Arthur Schnitzler's Traumnovelle (the inspiration for Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece Eyes Wide Shut). In both works, the characters understand existence through dream logic as I have tried to do here and realize the depth of both love and desire. I imagine this amalgam as a dream forest and love as a stochastic nonlinear series of trees in early spring.
